Now that I've been off of dA long enough not to worry about pageviews etc anymore, I'm finally moving to a different account.
Truth to be told, I joined dA years ago for a single purpose: to have a place to post my artwork as a free hosting service.
That's right, that's the shallow excuse that gave birth to saitoufly.
That's another thing: the account name. A combination of Hajime Saitou and Joecartoon's Superfly. That's no name I want to be recognized by, never wanted to.
Especially now that I've been vastly improving and gaining a little recognition as Dalehan, I found it was time to move on. So here we are!

If you wish to continue watching me, I must urge you to add :icondalehan: to your watch list ASAP. There's a high possibility I will end up deleting each and every image on this account, so be warned...

Thanks, and see you on the other side!

Comic Author course

Right, so last Tuesday, I started attending a course for comic author. I hope I'll get a lot of helpful information and know-how from this about... well, everything about the creative process a comic requires.
Despite having a Master degree in graphic design, I wanted to specialize in comic books during my years in college. However, this turned out to me a massive mistake, since never at any point did the teachers actually teach us anything. They just supervised and told you to correct things.

I never developped a sense of narrative, pacing, layout and storyboarding, learn proper inking techniques, etc. . All this'll be adressed in this course, so I'm really looking forward to it.

It's a bit weird to sit in this "classroom", though. Virtually everyone else attending took the course 'out of interest'. Ain't a bad thing, but it's a bit awkward to have a head start over everyone else. >_<

Also, it's only once a week, so no stressing. Yay.

In other news, about a month ago, my mother suddenly got struck by cardiac arrythmia. While we got to the hospital in time, the arrythmia would've been fatal if we weren't aware of this. We were lucky we all were awake, I don't want to imagine if this happened while we were sleeping... :(
Luckily she wasn't struck by this anymore, but the doctors saw it fitting to implant a defibrilator. She doesn't like it, but I hope in time she'll learn to live with it.

Okay I've been hella absent again lately, so here's a quick update on what's been going on

a) graduated from college, Master degree in Graphic Design. In short: a really expensive piece of toiletpaper.
b) holiday season
c) it's hot outside! I'm tired!
d) Brawl finally hit the European shelves. BRAAAAWL!
e) no idea's for drawings whatsoever... or at least nothing I can post here

I'll try and think of something I can post, it's been waaaaay too long since I've brought you people another update.

"Meme" idea: The Gym Leaders (pokém

Fact: I enjoy Pokémon. Not like a rabid fanboy, but, I enjoy it.
A minor setback to the game however is the inability to make a properly balanced team with just your preferenced types. In my case, having a team of Fighting type Pokémon on me isn't very smart to play throughout the game, or on a competitive level.

So lately I had been thinking about doing a little sort of meme, since I'm not keen on holding contests myself, where the artist could draw him- or herself as a Pokémon Gym Leader which is bound to a single Type, much Gym Leaders do like in the actual games. Ofcourse, to make things "fair" there would have to be a couple of rules that go along with the "meme".

- A maximum of 6 PKMNs, naturally. Every GL should be depicting himself with his choice PKMNs. This could be a standard image of him or herself surrounded by his choices, or an image where he or she is in training with them

- The leader dedicates himself to ONE specific type of PKMN, choosing from Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Flying, Ice, Rock, Ground, Poison, Psychic, Normal, Dragon, Steel or Dark. Ofcourse, PKMN with two types are also allowed.
As an added rule, I'll also allow one PKMN which doesn't belong to the type your Gym would represent, but still fits in because he shares a quality that's common with your Gym's type. (example, taking a Slaking in my Fighting gym because of his offensive power). However, this doesn't mean slapping in an entirely different Type is okay. Be sensible about this choice: if your Gym focusses on the Fire type, it doesn't make sense to have a Grass type in your team.

- If the participant wishes so, he or she may also design a Badge for their Gym.

- NO LEGENDARIES. Sorry if I broke some balls here but I can't allow Legendaries in the Gym teams. I don't care what kind of Mary Sue or how awesome a Gym Leader you must be, if everyone starts to pick out Legendaries for their teams.... they won't be that Legendary anymore, now would they?
Starters are still allowed, ofcourse.

Those are the rules, basically. I'm still thinking it over but I felt like sharing my idea so far. Hopefully I can start this thing sometime soon and will there be some folks who're willing to participate.
I'll also have to figure out some CSS so I can properly showcase every work in my journal.

Lack of art - update

Okay, it's been a while since I've done any good updates here, but I've had little time to do anything for myself lately. First of all, I have to finish a paper for college to hand in next Tuesday. I should manage to finish it without too much of a problem.
But there's a second timesink which's even taking away some of the time I need to spend on said paper.

Last week my dog had been diagnosed with autoimmunity, which caused his body to reject the fibrous tunic on his eye. We first thought it was an infection because his eye looked all blue, but no, it's autoimmunity. We were just in time to let him have surgery, where the doctor had to sew his third eyelid over the eyeball so the fibrous tunic could receive blood vessels to restore the wound. However, there were some signs his second eye had the same problem. Today it had been decided his other eye had to receive the same treatment, meaning we practically have a temporarily blind dog.
It really is very troubling since he's feeling so depressed because of his protective collar, he refuses to drink from his bowl. Feeding is doable, but it has to be done by hand.

These are troubling times indeed...

UPDATE:
Ollie just returned from the vet, and it looks like everything'll be not as bad as we first thought. The vet has opened the eye that was closed first since it had started healing again, and will now instead be treated with eyedrops. His other eye has been closed now to receive the same treatment as the first one, so he'll still be walking around with his collar for a while.
We still haven't figured out how we'll make sure he'll drink enough water. For some reason he doesn't want to go near his old waterbowl and even refuses to drink from his feeding bowl. Actually, it is as if he refuses to eat from his bowl as well.. Someone suggested wetting his dry food with water, but that'll be incredibly messy since we have to handfeed him. The only other, yet tedious option that seemed to work after trying it out is by letting him drink from a wet sponge...
Maybe I should feed him watermelon instead. XD
